Phase I of Shandong Inland Waterway Integrated Smart Energy Project Put into Operation

On August 28, 2024, the Boxing Port, part of Shandong Inland Waterway Integrated Smart Energy Project, developed by SPIC Shandong Energy Development Co., Ltd., officially began operations. This marks the full completion of Phase I of the project.

The project, designated as a "Benchmark Project for Emerging Industries" by the State Power Investment Corporation Limited ("SPIC"), leverages port resources and follows the concept of "optimized distribution, safety and reliability, and moderate advance", to establish an integrated green energy and zero-carbon transportation system. This system includes charging and battery swap stations, onshore-to-offshore power supply, charging piles, electric vessels, battery-swap electric heavy-duty trucks, distributed PV power, decentralized wind power, and cold and heat supply at various ports along the Xiaoqing River, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and other waterways in Shandong Province.

Phase I focuses on developing demonstration projects at two well-positioned ports along the Xiaoqing River, namely Gaoqing Port and Boxing Port, and will enhance grid peaking, reduce energy costs, ensure energy self-sufficiency for the ports, and support green, low-carbon port operations.
