XYZ Storage Wins First Prize at the 2024 CEC Electric Power Innovation Awards
On December 30, 2024, the China Electricity Council (CEC) announced the winners of the 2024 Electric Power Innovation Awards. XYZ Storage Technology Corp., Ltd. (XYZ Storage) was awarded first prize for its independently developed "Collaborative Production and Sales Unattended Energy Storage Power Plant Active Safety Management System", underscoring the company's exceptional innovation and leadership in energy storage technology.
The research team addressed critical challenges, including high data costs for energy storage plants, difficulty in predicting safety risks, and low profitability in the power market. Their efforts resulted in several groundbreaking advancements. This system has successfully addressed key common challenges in digitizing the energy storage industry, significantly improving the profitability and safety of next-generation energy storage solutions.
The innovation of this achievement lies in three main aspects: 1. Efficient data management for large-scale energy storage facilities. The system employs advanced compression technologies and integrated data-use strategies, reducing single-station data bandwidth from 20 Mb/s to 1 Mb/s and annual data storage needs from 8 TB to 0.2 TB. It also features a lightweight machine learning engine integrated with a database, further conserving computational resources. 2. Integrated "edge-cloud" collaborative safety system. To address delays in safety monitoring caused by the complexity of data integration in electrochemical energy storage stations, the system establishes a proactive, integrated "edge-cloud" safety framework. Through a digital twin simulation engine covering the entire lifecycle of energy storage safety and a proactive edge-cloud intelligent computing architecture, the system efficiently deploys cloud-based early warning and fire response algorithms to the Battery Management System (BMS). This improves the station's emergency response capabilities. The system also incorporates optimized rendering technology for digital twin modeling, enabling mainstream computers to handle full-precision models, further reducing overall system costs. 3. Optimization of production-sales collaboration across multiple scenarios. Tackling issues such as underutilization, unreliable dispatch, and market integration challenges, the system introduced advanced forecasting and coordination strategies. Key innovations include precise power forecasting, price-volume forecasting for electricity markets, source-grid-load-storage aggregation control, and a collaborative production-sales application framework. These advancements provide robust support for efficient station operation.
This system has been successfully deployed in multiple power plants across China, achieving Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL9). It establishes a comprehensive "cloud-field-terminal" active safety framework, enhancing diagnostics, safety decision-making, and performance optimization. The system also enhances station safety and dispatch reliability through efficient collaborative computing, protection, and optimization across the "cloud-field-edge" framework, providing a solid foundation for the development of the national new power system.
Looking ahead, XYZ Storage will continue to embrace innovation-driven development, focusing on the research and advancement of energy storage technologies, and contributing to the sustainable development of the power industry.
