China Power Shanxi Secures Approval for Licheng and Yuanqu Standalone Energy Storage Projects
Two standalone energy storage projects in Licheng and Yuanqu, developed by the China Power Shanxi Company, have been officially included in the Q1 2026 Energy Storage Project Catalog of Shanxi Province. These two newly approved projects are in addition to the existing Youyu project.
The first phase of the Licheng project will deploy a 100 MW/400 MWh electrochemical energy storage system, while the Yuanqu project will include a 100 MW/200 MWh system. Upon completion, both projects will help convert intermittent renewable energy such as wind and solar power into stable, reliable power supply. They will increase the grid's capacity to accommodate and consume renewable energy, provide peak shaving services, and support safe and stable grid operation. Serving as indispensable regulators, stabilizers, and buffers, the projects are expected to play a vital role in supporting the local power grid.
